The gear list you need to get out the door and on the road.

What you bring on a climbing road trip will depend on the scope of the trip. A weekend in the summer to a low elevation sport crag with designated campsites and a city within 15 minutes drive will demand only a simple list of items to bring.

A midwinter attempt at a remote alpine wall is a different matter completely.

Consider well what you need before you depart and you’ll increase the pleasure of your experience, reduce hassles and save having to buy the essential item that you forgot at home. If in doubt, print out this list, and add to it as needed.

Be sure to go to our indoor climbing page and check the nationwide listing of climbing gyms. Print out a list of the gyms near your destination and ones in between there and home. You may need to bail indoors if the weather goes south on you.
